Many Techniques within a Nuno Shibori Felted Scarf

$190.00 for 2 days including all materials

In this 2 day workshop you will learn to approach the art of creating a silk and wool nuno felted scarf from the perspective of a Textile Designer. Whether I create a sample or a finished scarf, I am always asking “How can I create an Interesting and Fabulous Fabric”?

We will work with my hand dyed and carded luxury fiber batts, which consist of silk, kid mohair, ultra fine wool and cashmere, as well as different types of hand dyed silks to create our nuno scarves.

On Day 1: We will explore the exciting processes of working with color, fabric manipulation, “lace effect” with holes, and the addition of nuno dreads in creating our base scarf.

On Day 2: we will explore shibori over-dye techniques to create an additional layer of color as well as thermal shaping of the scarf.

This is a class for Intermediate/Advanced Felters. Click here to Register

Joy of Living Yoga Retreat Centre

We are  thrilled to announce an exciting 4 day workshop with Melissa Arnold starting on July 6th to the 9th at the Joy of Living Yoga Retreat Centre located 25 miles East of Kelowna. We wanted to offer a different kind of felting experience for the adventurous and creative soul.

Melissa created a storm at the felt::feutre symposium in September 2016. Her unique creations, generous spirit and instructor style left her students craving more! We received numerous requests for additional workshops with Melissa so we’re bringing her back to BC!

In this 4 day workshop you will learn to approach the art of creating a silk and wool nuno felted wrap from the perspective of a Textile Designer.  We will begin by exploring the many design possibilities of combining wool and silk together into a white on white nuno “prefelt” wrap. From there we will apply a number of interesting techniques (Nuno Dreads, Organza Ruffles, “Lace” Holes and Felted Buttons) to create further texture and shaping to your wrap before we do our final felting and fulling.

We will then finish our pieces by experimenting with acid dyes and shibori thermal shaping creating a unique felted wrap. Attention to finishing details and further design possibilities will also be explored. The photo is an example of some of the techniques that you’ll learn during the workshop.

This is a class for intermediate felters.
Some dye experience is helpful but not necessary.
